During the COVID-19 outbreak, the Hinds County Board of Supervisors is dedicated to ensuring that all services remain open to Hinds County taxpayers and residents. However, in the interest of public health and safety, all Hinds County buildings and facilities have been closed to the general public. We are trying to make things as convenient for you as possible. In compliance with the Constitution, Hinds Chancery Court will remain open for business to ensure courts fulfill their constitutional and statutory duties. See Miss. Const. Art. 3, §§ 24, 25, 26, and 26A. For cases set between April 1, 2020, through May 15, 2020, the Judges will exercise their sound discretion with regard to their own docket. Continuances may be granted should any party, attorney or witness request a continuance because of COVID-19. All court proceedings shall be limited to attorneys, parties, witnesses, security officers, members of the press, and other necessary persons, as determined by the trial judge. Chancery Clerk staff will be available daily to answer questions about filing of Court Orders, including issuing of summons and subpoenas, and E-Recordings via telephone. Persuant to guidelines of the Chancellor, if you do not have a scheduled appointment access will not be granted to the Chancery Court area.

The circuit court will implement utilization of diverse forms of technology to conduct proceedings electronically.
- No jurors, to include grand jurors, will be summons to the courthouse for services before May 13, 2020.
- Lawyers should continue to file matters with the circuit clerk and MEC as usual. For emergency matters, lawyers must email copies of their motions, responses and proposed orders to each judge’s court administrator, staff attorney or law clerk, in addition to filing with same with the circuit clerk and MEC. Upon receipt, the court will address each matter on a case-by-case basis.

TAX ASSESSOR'S OFFICE

- Homestead Application Deadline –the homestead application deadline has been extended until May 1, 2020.
- First Monday of April Tax Sale - the tax sale deadline has been extended to May 4, 2020, which is the first Monday of May for the following counties: Amite, Quitman, and Sunflower.
- Personal Property Renditions – the due date for Personal Property Renditions furnished by taxpayers to the County Tax Assessor has been extended for thirty (30) days. They will be due on May 1, 2020. Since the due date is now May 1, 2020, the 10% increase in assessment penalty for failure to provide to Assessor will also be extended to May 1, 2020.
- Real and Personal Property Land Rolls Deadline –the due date for Real and Personal Land Rolls furnished from County Tax Assessors to Boards of Supervisors has been extended for thirty (30) days. At the discretion of each county’s board of supervisors, the extension is available, if needed. The land rolls could be due on the first Monday in August which will be on August 3, 2020.
- Affordable Rental Housing Deadline –the due date for the owner of affordable rental housing to provide an accurate statement of the actual net operating income to the county tax assessor has been extended for fifteen (15) days. The statements will be due April 15, 2020.
